Why We VOTE.
This month LXTP has focused on our show Heroes and Monsters (The first episode will be out soon! ) but we wanted to take a moment to focus on the upcoming election. We know regardless of the outcome that we all will be greatly affected and we wanted to offer up some personal reason why we are voting. Some reasons range from tradition, civic duty and an act of change for our legacy and our families’ futures. Watch and let us know #WhyDoYouVote!
Voting can be a touchy subject for many especially in the BIPOC community with voter suppression occurring even at the local level. From turning registered voters away, poll closings, long lines, and of course the pandemic circumstances and some people are making it hard for the citizens of the area to have easy access to vote. And we know this can be non-stop and disheartening for our community.
So LatinX Theatre Project wants to take this time to promote the right to vote and WE want to let YOU know that voting is a way to let your voice be heard and a form of protest! A way to demand change for our communities in NWA. As artists we believe it is our job to notice, acknowledge and amplify the voices of those who too often go unheard.
Here are some tips and resources to help keep you and your vote safe.
VOTE.ORG : Vote.org is a site that not only shows your polling site, voting drop boxes, ballot information on your state, but shows you how to be safe during this time of COVID-19 and how to stay safe while exercising your right to vote. You can also volunteer to work at a poll worker and register to vote. This site is a one stop shop for all voters who want to make sure they can exercise their right.
Number you can call if you have issues trying to vote:
